Robert's students
« on: January 27, 2008, 04:13:55 AM »

Can we come up with a list of Robert's students of painting. I can start us off:

David Gray
John Nash
Lisa Stokes
Louise Courtnell
Yana Trevail

He even gave me a few lessons translating his painting approach to my photography but not enough that I would call myself a student, I believe his programme lasted for a minimum of four months. I had about four hours spread over a couple of sessions.

So come on then, help me grow this list.
Thanks

Here's the current list from LBP:

    * Lucinda Arundell
    * Piran Bishop
    * Louise Courtnell
    * Handrew Morgan
    * John Ogden
    * Nahem Shoa
    * Lisa Stokes
    * Yana Trevail
    * Dan Wheatley

I had been hoping that people would complete the list, so perhaps this will provide a good opportunity.

There's a potentially fascinating thread here. The generic term "Lenkiewicz student" is highly misleading, as it comprises many who barely painted a black and white still-life to others who spent years being guided by him. Curiously, it is many of the latter who now work in a more personal style which probably wouldn't be recognised as being associated with Lenkiewicz, while the former still try to paint in a "sub-Lenkiewicz" manner.

Interesting point Francis. While we're on the theme of "Lenkiewicz Students" as an umbrella term, is there any chance we could quash one misnomer before it becomes accepted fact?

John Ogden was never a student of Robert's and by his own admission was Robert's "last prospective student." Yana can confirm that he didn't receive any tuition from Robert, so could I respectfully ask that his name be removed from any future lists of Robert's students.

Ye-Gods, it’s true then, the dead do rise, and there were eleven true disciples and one false. And all this before Easter the traditional time in .org for resurrections… Jason

Yeah, I often find myself getting all dreamy looking at and thinking about the sub vs super Lenkiewicz disciples as a breakaway group, but then again, I look back at a couple of old boys from the 20th C doing a bit of casual sloshing under the influence of Leonardo’s left hand, producing the head of Christ and think… Hmmmm, should they bother?

The real question here surely is should we remove the student list from the book project altogether, if it continues in its current vein we will have to include lists of book dealers and milkmen Robert knew as well …

I guess you would put diane nevitt, karen ciambriello and lisa stokes in the first group Francis? i. e own voice

And maybe nahem shoa, louise courtnell and yana travail in the second group (sub lenkiewicz), but didn't these 3 all spend years under his tutelage?

Kevin, I see you have included a particulary crap painting by me in that jpeg. Please remove it its embarrassing. By the way, although I was 'influenced' by ROL and for a while doing dodgy self portraits with lenky high lights in the hair, I never was his student . I am my own artist, I don't need to bask in anyones shadow.
