Rogue's Gallery on LBP
« on: January 11, 2010, 09:03:35 PM »

There is a steady flow on the market of paintings and drawings that are either attributed to Robert Lenkiewicz, or are sold as copies or "in the style of". Some are honest works of art that are sold second-hand as being by Robert. Many have labels on the back giving a provenance of the last Estate sale. All are potentially harmful to the name of Robert Lenkiewicz.

To show the range of such works, I have added a "Rogue's Gallery" to LBP, in the "Image Gallery", under "Miscellaneous". The 51 pieces added are works that I regard as not being produced by Robert. I may, of course, be wrong and I would be grateful for comments.

Contrary to the case with genuine pieces on LBP, sales data are included for the works in the Rogue's Gallery. Those data will be appreciated by potential buyers of Lenkiewicz works, but may not be equally welcomed by sellers of questionable works. The data are included for precisely those two reasons.

The copyright for these works lie with the artists that produced them. Any such artist is welcome to contact me if he/she wants me to remove images of his/her works. The artist will need to produce proof that he/she has produced the work/s in question, which is most welcome because knowledge of the identity of the people who produce these pieces would be useful.

Well-informed Lenkiewicz afficionados will note the absence of several well-known purported forgeries. Many pieces not included by me may well be forgeries, but if the evidence is inconclusive they have not been added to the gallery. I welcome suggestions for works that YOU think should be in the Rogue's Gallery, so they can be discussed by members of this forum.

And for the terminally lazy, here's the clickable link:

Good idea to keep track of these. For some reason or other they give no satisfaction to the buyers, who tend to sell them on shortly after acquiring them. Hmmm... I wonder why?  Wink

I think they'd make a great exhibition! If the artists, vendors and buyers come forward, I'll publish a book.

It could be jojo's next project with photos of the owners smiling with their paintings and the forgers pictured inset etc. Cheesy

Ps; rogues gallery images are in with all the rest of rol's work when you click 'latest images' - is this a mistake, admin?

'Latest images' is simply a function showing the latest images added to LBP, making no distinction between genuine works, forgeries, or for example photographs of people. Clicking any of the newly added images will take you to its proper place, with the heading:

Home » Image Gallery » Miscellaneous » Rogues' Gallery

Hopefully the arrangement will be clear enough not to mislead people.

Candidates added to LBP. But I fear they will be sold anyway.

I think I prefer the same seller's tiger by David Shepherd:

But you can buy a great variety of other famous artists as well for fifty quid.
